Craig helped Venice cook dinner for Lamar and Tressa. This would be their first dinner together since their wedding. As Craig tended to the steaks, Venice said, “Babe, can I talk to you about something?”
Smiling, he said, “Sure, Sweetheart. What’s up?”
Turning, he saw the stress on his wife’s face and was concerned. “What’s wrong?”
Wiping her hands on a dish towel, she said, “It’s about Winston and Arnelle.”
“What about them?”
“Arnelle is the woman Winston met in California that time when he was drugged.”
Dropping the utensil he held in his hand, he asked, “What did you say?”
Sighing, she sat down and covered her face.
“Arnelle made me promise not to say anything. She said she was going to tell Winston everything as soon as she could find a way. She didn’t drug him, but she knows who did. She was in love with him then and she’s in love with him now.”
Craig shook his head in anger and sat down across from her. “Wait! Wait! Wait! So you mean to tell me Arnelle was involved in that shit that went down?”
“Yes, but she didn’t expect anything like that to happen. No one was supposed to get hurt. She loves him.”
“I’ll be damned! Winston was beginning to suspect Arnelle was the woman he met, but only because she’s been avoiding telling him where they met in the past. I can’t believe this!
Venice, Winston has a right to know this!”
Touching his hand lovingly, she said, “I know, Babe, but I promised. I don’t want to have any secrets between us and they are our friends.”
Covering his face, Craig sighed. “Tell me everything.”
Venice began to explain, and most surprising was the part about MaLeah and that Arnelle was planning on telling Winston everything when she visited him in California. Craig’s heart ached for his friend because he knew how heartbreaking it was going to be for him when he discovered the truth. Once Venice finished telling him the whole story, Craig stood and walked over to the window and stared outside in silence. He stood there suspended in deep thought for what seemed like an eternity, then said, “Venice, if Arnelle doesn’t tell Skeeter before he gets back to Philly…I will. The man has a right to know what happened to him and the fact that he has a child.”
She walked to him and hugged him tightly. Laying her head against his chest, she answered, “I agree, Babe. They’re in love and that baby needs her parents.”
Kissing her cheek, he said, “Let’s finish dinner.”
Wiping away a tear, she smiled. “Okay.”
